Confirm and edit receipts by voice

With Voice Interaction on, AceMoney Receipts reads a fresh scan back to you and listens for your answer, so a receipt can be checked and saved without touching the screen. It is part of Receipts Pro.

Before you begin

Receipts Pro is active on this phone (see Receipts Pro and the Mileage plan).
Voice Interaction is on (see below).
Microphone access is allowed. The first voice session asks for it: on iPhone the prompt reads “AceMoney Receipts uses the microphone when you speak a command, such as filing a receipt. The recording is sent to AceMoney’s service to be turned into text.”; Android shows its own microphone prompt.
A connection: your words are understood by a speech service, and the spoken read-back is generated by it too.

Turn voice on

Tap More, then Settings.
Open the Capture & OCR tab.
Turn on Voice Interaction (“Read back OCR results aloud”). On the free plan the switch is greyed and opens the subscription sheet.

Confirm a scanned receipt by voice

Scan or import a receipt as usual. When the New Receipt page opens, the app speaks what it read, for example “Payee is Blue Fern Cafe, price is fourteen twenty. Say confirmed to save, or tell me what to change.” If the payee or the price is missing, it says so and asks you for it.
A red Listening… pill appears. Speak after it shows.
Say confirmed to save the receipt and return to Home.
Or say what to change, for example “payee is Northwind Grocery” or “price is sixty-three eighteen”. The app applies it and reads back only what changed: “Updated: payee is Northwind Grocery. Say confirmed to save, or tell me what else to change.”
Say cancel to stop the voice session and finish by hand.

The app listens for up to five rounds of changes. If it hears nothing twice in a row, it says it did not catch that and stops; after five rounds it asks you to continue manually. Tapping Save or Cancel also ends the session.

Speak naturally, in English. You can combine changes in one sentence; the read-back lists everything that changed.

Edit a saved receipt by voice

Open the receipt from Home.
Tap the purple microphone button at the bottom right, between Cancel and Save. The app asks what you want to change.
Say the changes, then confirmed to save, or cancel.

Dictate a note

Say “add comment” followed by the note; it is added to Comment. The read-back confirms it (“added comment …”). This works during the confirmation after a scan and from the microphone button on a saved receipt.

Microphone permission and privacy

The microphone is used only while the Listening… pill shows; the app does not listen in the background.
If microphone access is denied, voice does nothing and shows no message. Allow the microphone for AceMoney Receipts in the phone’s settings.
Your recording is sent to MechCAD’s servers, which use a speech service to understand it; the spoken read-back is generated the same way. Nothing is recorded until the pill shows. See Privacy and security.

Platform notes

iOS (iPhone and iPad)

Check the ring/silent switch and the volume: the read-back plays through the speaker. The microphone prompt appears once; later changes are made in the phone’s settings under AceMoney Receipts.

Android

The read-back uses the media volume. Microphone access is granted in the system prompt or later in the app’s permissions in the phone’s settings.

Web

Voice is not available in the web version.

Common questions

Is voice included in the free plan?

No. It is a Receipts Pro feature.

Does it work offline?

No. Both the read-back and the understanding of what you say need a connection.

Does it work in other languages?

No, English only.

Can I keep the read-back but not the listening?

No. Voice Interaction controls both. Turn it off to scan silently.

Does it fill in the category and account?

Yes: say “category is …” or “account is …”. The value is placed in the field; check it before saying confirmed.

Can I skip the read-back for a receipt?

Say cancel as soon as the pill appears, or tap Cancel or Save.

Troubleshooting

Nothing is spoken after a scan. Check that Receipts Pro is active, Voice Interaction is on, the phone is not muted, and you are online.
The Listening pill never appears, or the microphone button does nothing. Microphone access was denied; there is no in-app message. Allow it in the phone’s settings.
“Didn’t catch that”. Speak after the pill appears, closer to the phone, in a quiet room. After two silent rounds the session ends; tap the microphone to start again.
The wrong field changed. Say the correction (“payee is …”) or say cancel and fix it by hand before tapping Save.
The app saved before I was ready. “Confirmed” saves at once. Open the receipt from Home to edit it.
The session stops after a few changes. Five rounds is the limit; tap the microphone to start a new session.
