Get started with AceMoney Receipts

This page takes you from the app store to your first saved receipt. It covers the phone and tablet app; the desktop-browser version has its own page, Receipts on the web.

Before you begin

An iPhone or iPad, or an Android phone or tablet.
An internet connection. Receipts are stored in your account, so saving one needs a connection; mileage, splits and the Filing Cabinet also work offline.
Optional: an e-mail address, or a Google, Apple or Microsoft account, if you want to sign in rather than continue as a guest.

Install the app

iOS (iPhone and iPad)

Open the App Store and search for AceMoney Receipts.
Tap Get, then confirm with Face ID, Touch ID or your Apple ID password.
Tap Open when the download finishes.

Android

Open Google Play and search for AceMoney Receipts.
Tap Install.
Tap Open when the download finishes.

The download is free on both stores. Receipts Pro and the Mileage plan are optional purchases made later inside the app.

What happens on the first launch

A splash screen with the app logo appears for a moment.
The Welcome page opens with the tagline Manage your receipts with ease.
Your phone asks whether AceMoney Receipts may send you notifications. Allow or decline; the app uses notifications only for occasional announcements and, if you turn it on later, a note when a drive starts recording.
In the European Economic Area and the United Kingdom, a short consent form about ads appears on the free plan. You can change your choice later under Settings > About > Ad Privacy Options.

There is no tour to click through; you land on the Welcome page.

The Welcome page offers four ways in. Pick one; you can change later.

Register with an e-mail address

Tap Register on the toggle at the top.
Enter your Email, a Password and the same password under Confirm Password. The password must be at least 8 characters and include an uppercase letter, a lowercase letter, a number and a special character.
Tap Register.
Open the verification e-mail we send you and tap its link, then return to the app and tap I’ve Verified My Email.

Leave Sign In selected.
Enter your Email and Password and tap Sign In.

Under Or continue with, tap Google, Apple or Microsoft and follow the sign-in of that provider. No verification e-mail is needed.

Continue as a guest

Tap Continue as Guest. You get a working app immediately, with no e-mail address.

Find your way around

The bar at the bottom of the screen has six items, left to right:

Home: your receipts, newest first, under a card with three budget gauges for the current month. A round search button sits at the right edge.
Charts: spending by category, by month, a daily trend and budget versus actual.
Scan: opens the scan sheet. It does not switch tabs.
Splits: bills you share with friends, and who owes whom.
Mileage: your trips and vehicles; the icon turns green while automatic drive detection is armed.

Scan your first receipt in three steps

Tap Scan in the bottom bar, then Camera. The first time, allow camera access when your phone asks. Point the camera at the receipt; the scanner finds the edges and captures the page on its own. If the receipt is long, keep scanning and add the next page before you finish.
Wait for Processing Receipt… to finish. The New Receipt page opens with the Payee, Amount ($) and Date filled in from the scan and the picture attached at the top. Check them, and pick a Category if you like (new receipts default to General).
Tap Save. The receipt appears at the top of the Home tab.

If the app warns Photo quality warning because the picture looks blurry or has glare, tap Retake for a better read, or Use Anyway. No camera handy? Scan > Photo Library imports a picture you took earlier, and Scan > Manual Entry creates a receipt without any picture. More on Scan a receipt and Review and edit a receipt.

What is free

Everything you just did is free, and stays free:

Camera scanning, multi-page receipts, photo import and reading of the merchant, date and total on the phone.
Editing, categories, search and sort, the three budget gauges and the Charts tab.
Bill splitting, with no accounts needed for the people you split with.
The mileage logbook: manual trips without limit, plus up to 20 automatically detected drives a month.
Up to 5 documents in the AceMoney Filing Cabinet.
The biometric lock, and pairing with AceMoney Classic on Windows.

The free plan shows ads. Receipts Pro adds automatic reading by the reading service in the cloud within a monthly fair-use cap, an itemised list of what you bought in the Comment field, voice confirmation, unlimited Filing Cabinet documents and no ads. The Mileage plan removes the monthly cap on automatically detected drives. Prices differ by store and country; see Receipts Pro and the Mileage plan and the pricing page.

Common questions

No. Continue as Guest gives you the whole app. The catch is that a guest’s receipts exist only on that device; link an account before you change phones.

Can I use the app on my iPad or Android tablet?

Yes, the same app runs on tablets from the same store listing.

Can I use the app in another currency or language?

Amounts are recorded in US dollars and the app is in English. For a receipt in another currency, type the amount converted to dollars.

Where are my receipts kept?

In your account, on our servers, so they are there when you sign in on another phone or in the web version. Mileage trips and Filing Cabinet documents stay on the device unless you connect the phone to an AceMoney Studio document through AceMoney Cloud, and splits stay on the device unless you share one. I registered but the app says my e-mail is not verified

Open the e-mail we sent (check the spam folder), tap its link, then tap I’ve Verified My Email in the app. Resend Verification Email sends a fresh one after a short cooldown.

Troubleshooting

The scanner does not open and the app says “Scanner failed, using standard camera”. The built-in document scanner could not start; the plain camera opens instead. Take the picture, and the app still reads it.
The camera is black or the app cannot use it. Camera access was declined. Allow it in your phone’s settings; see the permission section of Privacy and security.
“Failed to upload image. Please check your connection.” Saving a receipt needs a connection. Reconnect and tap Save again.
The app shows “Please fill in all fields” or “Please enter a valid email address.” Both the e-mail and the password are required, and the e-mail must be well formed.
Registration says “This email is already registered.” Switch to Sign In, or use Forgot Password? if you do not remember the password.
