AceMoney Receipts

Import a receipt from your photos

Last updated

Took the picture earlier, got it from someone else, or saved a screenshot of an online order? Import it from the photo library and AceMoney Receipts treats it like a fresh scan.

Before you begin

  • On iPhone and on recent Android the phone’s own photo picker opens and asks for no permission, so there is no prompt the first time.
  • The phone app imports one picture at a time, and only from the photo library. There is no file browser in the phone app.

Import a photo as a receipt

  1. Tap Scan in the bottom bar.
  2. Tap Photo Library.
  3. Pick the photo. The app straightens it, looks for the edges of the receipt and crops to them.
  4. If the app cannot find the edges, the Crop Receipt page opens: drag the corners around the receipt and confirm.
  5. If the picture looks blurry or has glare, the Photo quality warning appears; tap Use Anyway or Retake (which reopens the photo library).
  6. The app shows Processing Receipt… while it reads the picture, then opens New Receipt with the fields it could read. Check them and tap Save.

Import several photos

Repeat the steps for each photo. There is no multi-select: every import creates exactly one receipt from one picture. A receipt that spans two photos cannot be joined from the library; scan it with the camera instead, where one receipt can have several pages (see Scan a receipt).

Which pictures work

  • JPEG, PNG and WebP pictures, and the HEIC photos an iPhone takes (converted automatically).
  • Screenshots of online receipts and order confirmations. Edge detection may not find a “receipt” in a screenshot, so expect the Crop Receipt page; crop to the part that shows the merchant and the total.
  • PDF files cannot be imported from the photo library. Take a screenshot of the page that shows the total and import that.

Import a photo that was taken somewhere else

If Record Geolocation is on in More > Settings > Capture & OCR, the location saved on the receipt is where you are when you import, not where the photo was taken. Turn off Record Geolocation on the New Receipt page before saving, or open the receipt afterwards and tap Delete Location.

Platform notes

iOS (iPhone and iPad)

If you gave the app access to selected photos only, the receipt photo must be among them; add it in the phone’s settings or grant access to all photos. Photos that are only in the cloud are downloaded first; on a slow connection that can take a moment.

Android

The system photo picker opens. Pictures in a cloud gallery must be downloaded to the phone before the picker can hand them over.

Web

The web version does not import pictures at this time. Add receipts by typing them in: see Receipts on the web.

Common questions

Does importing change or delete the original photo?

No. The app works on a copy. The photo stays in your library unchanged; delete it yourself if you no longer want it there.

Is the imported picture read the same way as a camera scan?

Yes. On the free plan it is read on the phone; on Receipts Pro the reading service reads it. See How receipts are read.

Can I import a photo into a receipt I already saved?

No. A picture can only be attached while a receipt is created. To add a picture to a receipt you typed in, create a new receipt from the photo and delete the old one.

Can I pick more than one photo at a time?

No. Import them one after another.

Can I import a PDF?

Not from the phone app’s photo library. Screenshot the page with the total and import the screenshot.

Why does the Crop Receipt page open?

The app could not find the four edges of the receipt in the picture, which is normal for screenshots, crumpled receipts or pictures with a busy background. Drag the corners and confirm.

Troubleshooting

  • Photo Library opens nothing or shows no photos. Photo access may have been limited in the phone’s settings. Check it there for AceMoney Receipts, and choose the photos you want to share with the app.
  • The crop is wrong. Tap Cancel on New Receipt and import again; on Crop Receipt, drag the corners so that only the receipt is inside the frame.
  • Payee and Amount are blank after the import. The picture was too small, dark or skewed to read. Crop tighter, or retake the photo in better light. You can always type the fields.
  • “Image file is no longer available. Please try again.” The photo could not be read from the library (often a cloud photo that was not downloaded). Open it once in the photo app, then import again.
  • The wrong location was saved. See “Import a photo that was taken somewhere else” above; use Delete Location on the receipt.
  • “Failed to upload image. Please check your connection.” Reconnect and tap Save again.
