AceMoney Studio
Install AceMoney Studio on your phone or tablet
AceMoney Studio Mobile, the complete Studio ledger for iPhone, iPad and Android, is coming to the App Store and Google Play. Its first store release is version 1.2. It is not in the stores yet, so today Studio runs on computers only; see Install on your computer. This page describes the app as it will be from version 1.2.
What the mobile app is
From version 1.2:
- The full ledger, not a cut-down version, with the same pages as the desktop app, including Home, Accounts, Register, Schedule, Portfolio, Reports, Categories, Payees, Banks, Tags, Splits, Mileage and Settings.
- A free download. The free version keeps three accounts you can edit, one goal and one portfolio for as long as you like. A one-time unlock bought inside the app lifts those limits and opens Investments. See Pricing and Plans and licensing.
- Private: your data stays on the device unless you choose to sync it with AceMoney Cloud. No account is needed, signing in is optional (only for AceMoney Cloud), and there are no ads.
- One document that lives inside the app. See Documents and files.
- A mileage log with automatic drive detection. See Mileage.
What the mobile app is not
- Not a copy of the desktop app. The phone app cannot open a desktop document file. With AceMoney Cloud, a separate subscription, it keeps the same document in step with Studio on your computers.
- Not covered by a desktop license. An AceMoney Studio license for a computer does not unlock the phone app, and the phone unlock does not license a computer.
- No document password. There is no file to encrypt; the ledger stays inside the app on your device.
- No reminder notifications for scheduled transactions. Scheduling and automatic posting work; reminders are desktop only.
- A 90-day register. The register lists the last 90 days of an account; balances are exact for the whole account. See Studio on mobile.
- No Software Update tab. The phone app is updated by the store.
Get the app
AceMoney Studio Mobile is not in the stores yet. When version 1.2 is released:
iOS (iPhone and iPad)
- Open the App Store and search for AceMoney Studio.
- Install it. One app runs on iPhone and iPad; it needs iOS 15 or later.
- Open the app. It starts with the Welcome to AceMoney Studio page; continue with Get started.
Android
- Open Google Play and search for AceMoney Studio.
- Install it. One app runs on Android phones and tablets.
- Open the app and continue with Get started.
Use Studio on an iPad or an Android tablet
On a tablet the layout is the same as on desktop: a navigation rail down the left and a top bar, with the page beside them. There is no separate tablet layout. Landscape gives the register and the reports the most room, and every page works in either orientation.
On a phone held upright, a bar along the bottom replaces the rail: Home, Register, Schedule, Reports and More. More opens the rest of the pages. The top bar is one line: the page title with the document name as its subtitle, then Search, ?, Toggle theme and About AceMoney Studio. Tap the title (tooltip Document and portfolio) to open a sheet with the document, its last backup and the portfolio switcher. Turn the phone sideways and the rail comes back. A tablet is still the most comfortable way to work with the register for long stretches.
Bring in your AceMoney Classic data
On iPhone, iPad and Android, choose Import my AceMoney data… on the first-run page and pick the file. On iPhone and iPad the file comes from the Files app, so put it in iCloud Drive or another Files location first. You can also import on a computer and keep the phone in step with AceMoney Cloud. See Import data.
Keep the app up to date
Updates will come from the App Store and Google Play like any other app; turn on automatic updates in the store if you want them applied for you. The phone app has no Software Update tab in Settings; that tab exists only on a computer.
Before you delete the app
The document and its backups are stored inside the app on the device, so deleting the app deletes them from the device. With AceMoney Cloud, the synced document stays on your other devices. Before you remove the app or switch phones, export what you want to keep: Register ▸ Export for each account (QIF or CSV), Accounts ▸ Export, and any report you want from Reports. Each export goes through the share sheet, so you can save it to Files, Drive or a cloud folder. See Export and print and Backups and restore.
Common questions
Can I download Studio for my phone today?
Not yet. AceMoney Studio Mobile is coming to the App Store and Google Play; its first store release is version 1.2. Until then, use Studio on a Mac, Windows or Linux computer.
Does my desktop license unlock the phone app?
No. Studio on a computer and AceMoney Studio Mobile are separate purchases. The phone app will have its own one-time unlock, bought inside the app and tied to your Apple ID or Google account.
Can I share data between my phone and my computer?
Yes, with AceMoney Cloud, a separate subscription: once the phone app is released, the document stays in step between the phone and your computers, end-to-end encrypted. See What syncs.
Will an unlock bought on Android work on my iPhone?
No. The unlock belongs to the store account it was bought with, so an Apple purchase covers your Apple devices and a Google purchase your Android devices. On a new phone with the same store account, use Restore purchases.
Will I need an internet connection?
No. The app goes online for things you ask for: investment quotes, a SimpleFIN bank-feed refresh, AceMoney Cloud sync, the map of a trip, and a purchase. It also downloads exchange rates by itself while Update exchange rates automatically is on (the default, in Settings ▸ Currency & Quotes); only currency codes are sent.
Is there a separate iPad version?
No. One app runs on iPhone and iPad, and one on Android phones and tablets.
How much will the unlock cost?
See Pricing. In the app, the unlock dialog shows the price in your store’s currency.
Will the phone app show ads?
No. Studio has no ads in any version.
Troubleshooting
These apply once the app is released with version 1.2.
- I cannot find AceMoney Studio in the App Store or Google Play. The phone app is not released yet; its first store release is version 1.2.
- “Unlocking isn’t available yet — check back soon.” or the price is missing. The app could not reach the store. Check your connection and that you are signed in to the App Store or Google Play, then open Settings ▸ Account and tap Unlock again.
- “No previous purchase was found to restore.” You are signed in to a different store account than the one that bought the unlock, or the purchase was made on the other platform’s store.
- “Couldn’t complete the purchase. Try again.” or “Couldn’t restore your purchases. Try again.” A store-side problem. Check your payment method with the store and try again; the app never charges you itself.
- Account names wrap or text overflows on a small phone. A layout limit at narrow widths. Rotate the phone or use a tablet; your data is unaffected.
- Older transactions are missing from the register. The register on a phone lists the last 90 days. Balances are still exact, and Reports ▸ Transactions with the period All Dates lists everything.
- There is no Software Update tab. Expected on a phone; updates come from the store.
