AceMoney Studio
Keyboard shortcuts in AceMoney Studio
AceMoney Studio on a computer binds the same keys AceMoney Classic used, so you can switch without relearning. This page lists every shortcut by area. They work on macOS, Windows and Linux.
How to read the tables: “Primary” means ⌘ (Command) on macOS and Ctrl on Windows and Linux. Alt is the Option (⌥) key on a Mac. Function keys and the single-letter register keys are the same on every system.
Move between pages
| Keys | What it does |
|---|---|
| F1 | Open help for the page you are on (the same as the ? button in the top bar) |
| F2 | Go to Accounts |
| F3 | Go to Banks |
| F4 | Go to Payees |
| F5 | Go to Categories |
| F6 | Go to Schedule |
| F7 | Go to Reports |
| F8 | Go to Portfolio |
| Alt+Home | Go to Home |
| Alt+← / Alt+→ | Back and forward through the pages you visited |
| Alt+H | Hide or show the navigation rail |
| Primary+K | Open global search (the same as the Search button in the top bar) |
| Primary+1 … Primary+9, Primary+0 | Open the 1st … 9th and 10th account of the active portfolio in the Register, in the order the Register’s account picker shows (your saved order, or by name when Sort by on the Accounts page is Name) |
Work with documents
| Keys | What it does |
|---|---|
| Primary+N | File ▸ New Document |
| Primary+O | File ▸ Open… |
| Primary+Shift+S | File ▸ Save a Copy As… |
| Primary+W | File ▸ Close Document |
| Primary+S | Shows the message Everything is saved automatically — no action needed. There is nothing to save by hand. |
| ⌘Q | Quit (macOS only). On Windows and Linux, close the window. |
Work in the register
| Keys | What it does |
|---|---|
| Primary+F | Go to the Register and put the cursor in its search box |
| Primary+B | Open Reconcile for the selected account (or the account the Register shows if none is selected) |
| Primary+Z | Undo the most recent change that offered Undo (a delete, a paste, a move to another account), the same as the Undo button on its message. Works once. |
| Primary+P, Primary+Shift+P | Print the register on screen through the system print dialog |
These keys act on the selected rows. They work only while a transaction row is selected, the cursor is not in the search box, and you are not editing a cell in place:
| Key | What it does |
|---|---|
| Insert | New transaction. On a scheduled bill’s row, enter that bill into the register. |
| Delete | Move the selected transactions to the trash (undo with Primary+Z) |
| Enter or Alt+Enter | Edit the selected transaction |
| Primary+C (or Ctrl+Insert) | Copy the selected transactions. They also go on the clipboard as text, so you can paste them into a spreadsheet. |
| Primary+V (or Shift+Insert) | Paste the copied transactions into the account on screen, as new transactions. Works only while the clipboard still holds what you copied in Studio. |
| Primary+D | Duplicate: open a new transaction filled in from the selected one, dated today. Nothing is saved until you save it. |
| Shift+F10 or the menu key | Open the row menu, the same menu as a right-click |
| C | Mark the row Cleared |
| R | Mark the row Reconciled |
| U | Mark the row Uncleared |
| 1 to 9 | Add or remove tag 1 to 9 on the row (the order of the Tags page) |
| 0 | Remove every tag from the row |
Inside the grid, the arrow keys, Page Up, Page Down, Home and End move the selection, and Primary+A selects every row. Text fields, including the search box and dialogs, use your system’s usual copy, cut and paste keys.
Primary+P (or Primary+Shift+P) prints what is on screen on the Register, Reports, Accounts, Schedule and Portfolio pages, through the system print dialog. On any other page the keys do nothing. Exporting has no shortcut; use the Export control on the page.
Reports
| Keys | What it does |
|---|---|
| Primary+D | While Reports is showing, add the report on screen to your favorites, as in AceMoney Classic. On the Register the same keys duplicate a transaction. |
Display size
| Keys | What it does |
|---|---|
| Primary+= (or Primary++) | Make everything one step larger |
| Primary+− | Make everything one step smaller |
The steps are the Display size choices in Settings ▸ Appearance: Compact, Standard and Large. The numeric keypad’s + and − work too. Primary+0 opens the tenth account, not the standard size; choose Standard in Settings for that.
Keys that are deliberately not bound
- Backspace does not go back a page, because it is too easy to press inside a text field. Use Alt+←.
- Ctrl+K opens search, not the calculator it opened in AceMoney Classic. The Loan Calculator…, Mortgage Calculator… and Savings Calculator… are in the Tools menu, without a shortcut.
- Alt+O (AceMoney Online) has no equivalent in Studio.
- Shortcuts cannot be customized.
macOS
⌘ takes the place of Ctrl in every “Primary” shortcut, and Option takes the place of Alt. On many Mac keyboards the F-keys control brightness and volume unless you hold Fn; to use them directly, turn on “Use F1, F2, etc. keys as standard function keys” in System Settings ▸ Keyboard. There is no Insert key on a Mac: use the New button in the register toolbar.
Windows
The shortcuts work as listed, with Ctrl and Alt.
Linux
The shortcuts work as listed. If your desktop environment already uses one of them (some reserve Alt+H or Alt+←), the desktop wins; use the navigation rail or the menu bar instead.
On a phone or tablet
AceMoney Studio Mobile, coming with version 1.2, is made for touch. Use the buttons on screen; for example, tap the search button (the magnifying glass) in the top bar instead of pressing Primary+K.
Common questions
Are the shortcuts the same as in AceMoney Classic?
Yes for everything that has an equivalent: F2 to F8 for the pages, Ctrl+1 to Ctrl+0 for accounts, Ctrl+B to reconcile, Ctrl+F to find, Ctrl+P to print, Ctrl+D for a report favorite, Insert, Delete and Enter in the register, Ctrl+C and Ctrl+V (or Ctrl+Insert and Shift+Insert) to copy and paste transactions, and C, R, U for the cleared status. On a Mac, ⌘ replaces Ctrl.
Why does pressing C, R or U do nothing?
The row keys act on the selected row only. Click a transaction first, and make sure the cursor is not in the search box (press Esc or click the grid). While the search box has the cursor, letters go into the search text.
How do I add a transaction from the keyboard on a Mac?
Mac keyboards have no Insert key. Click New in the register toolbar; the form then takes keyboard input as usual.
Is there a shortcut for Settings, Tags or Splits?
No. The F-keys cover seven pages; use the navigation rail (or Primary+K and type the page name) for the others.
Can I change a shortcut?
No. The map is fixed so that it matches AceMoney Classic and the hints shown in the menus.
Troubleshooting
F2 to F8 change the volume or brightness instead of switching pages (Mac). Hold Fn with the F-key, or turn on standard function keys in System Settings ▸ Keyboard.
Primary+3 does nothing. The active portfolio has fewer than three accounts, or you are in a portfolio whose accounts are ordered differently. Check the order on the Accounts page.
Primary+P does nothing. Printing from the keyboard works only on the Register, Reports, Accounts, Schedule and Portfolio pages. Switch to one of them first.
Primary+C or Primary+V does nothing in the register. Select a row first, and make sure the cursor is not in the search box or in a cell you are editing. Primary+V pastes only what you copied from a Studio register; if you copied other text since, copy the transactions again.
Alt+H seems to have no effect. The rail toggles between hidden and shown; press it again. If it never responds, your desktop environment may have reserved the key.
Primary+Z does not bring my transaction back. Undo covers only the most recent change that offered Undo, once, in the document that is open. If more time has passed, restore a backup from Settings ▸ Document ▸ Restore….
