AceMoney Studio
Change the look of AceMoney Studio
AceMoney Studio keeps a neutral look with one accent color, so your numbers stay the focus. This page shows you how to switch between light and dark, make everything larger or more compact, choose the language and how dates and numbers are written, pick a theme or your own accent color, and make income and expenses easier to tell apart. Every option lives on the Appearance tab of Settings.
Switch between light, dark and system
- Open Settings from the navigation rail. The Appearance tab opens first.
- Under Appearance, choose System, Light or Dark.
- The change applies at once, on every page of the app.
System follows your device: when your computer or phone switches to dark mode in the evening, Studio switches with it.
Make everything larger or more compact
Under Display size, choose Compact, Standard or Large. The line under the title explains: “Compact shows more on the screen; Large makes everything easier to read.” On a computer you can also press ⌘ + and ⌘ − on macOS, or Ctrl + + and Ctrl + − on Windows and Linux, on any page, to step between the three sizes.
Choose the language
Language, at the top of the tab, offers Automatic, English, Italiano, Español and Français. Automatic follows the language of your computer or phone when Studio has it, and English otherwise. The change applies at once.
Choose how dates and numbers are written
- Date format offers Automatic (from this computer’s region), 31/12/2026, 12/31/2026 and 2026-12-31. While Automatic is chosen, a line under it shows the result, for example Dates are shown like 12/31/2026. From version 1.2, three more are added: 31-Dec-2026, 3.4.2026 and 03.04.2026.
- Number format offers Automatic (from this computer’s region), 1,234.56, 1.234,56, 1 234,56 and 1’234.56. While Automatic is chosen, a line under it shows the result, for example Numbers are shown like 1,234.56.
Both apply across the app: the register, Home, reports and the fields where you type amounts and dates.
Choose a theme
The Theme section reads: “A neutral foundation with one precise accent. Money colors stay fixed across every theme.” Tap a swatch to choose one of the nine presets:
Slate Teal (the default), Indigo, Royal & Gold, Emerald, Graphite, Midnight, Plum, Copper and Classic Green.
Classic Green is the closest to the green of AceMoney Classic. Whichever you pick, income stays green, expenses stay red and transfers keep their own neutral color, unless you turn on colorblind-safe colors (below).
Pick your own accent color
- Under Custom accent, tap one of the 16 swatches, or
- type a six-character color code such as
#1E8E6Finto Hex accent and press Apply. - The app derives a complete, balanced light and dark scheme from that one color. Money colors are not affected.
If the code is not a valid color, the field shows Enter a hex color like #1E8E6F.
Make income and expenses easier to tell apart
Under Accessibility, turn on Colorblind-safe money colors. Its description reads: “Uses a blue/orange (Okabe–Ito) palette instead of green/red, and pairs every amount with a +/− sign.” Income and expenses then differ by sign as well as by color, in the register, on Home, in reports and in charts.
Choose what a double-click does in the Register
From version 1.2, on a computer, the tab has a Register section with one switch, Double-click opens the transaction. Off (the default), a double-click on a cell in the Register edits that cell in place. On, a double-click opens the whole transaction for editing. See The register.
Check the preview
The Preview card shows sample buttons, sample amounts (an income, an expense and a transfer) and chart series in the current theme, so you can judge a color before you use it for real. Under the card, one line reads Text contrast meets WCAG AA when text is comfortably readable, or Low text contrast — pick a different mode when your accent makes text hard to read in the current mode. Switching between Light and Dark updates the preview.
Reset the theme
Tap Reset theme to default near the bottom of the tab (its subtitle reads Slate Teal · System). This restores the default preset and the System mode. The Colorblind-safe money colors switch, the display size, the language and the date and number formats are left as you set them.
Where the setting is remembered
Every option on this tab is remembered on this device and applies to every document you open there. None is stored inside the document, so the same document opened on another computer uses that computer’s own settings.
iOS (iPhone and iPad)
AceMoney Studio Mobile is not in the app stores yet. From AceMoney Studio Mobile 1.2, the Appearance tab works as on a computer, without the keyboard shortcuts and the Register section, and Automatic date and number formats say this device’s region. System follows the phone’s or tablet’s Appearance setting, including a schedule you set there.
Android
As on iOS. System follows Android’s Dark theme setting, including a schedule you set there.
macOS
System follows the Appearance setting in System Settings, including the Auto option.
Windows
System follows the app color mode in Windows Settings ▸ Personalization ▸ Colors.
Linux
System follows the dark-mode preference your desktop environment reports. If your desktop does not report one, Studio shows the light theme; choose Light or Dark by hand instead.
Common questions
Does a theme change how income and expenses are colored?
No. Every preset and every custom accent keeps the money colors fixed: income green, expenses red, transfers neutral. The only thing that changes them is the Colorblind-safe money colors switch, which replaces green and red with blue and orange and adds a plus or minus sign to every amount.
Can I make the text bigger?
Yes. Choose Large under Display size, or press ⌘ + (macOS) or Ctrl + + (Windows, Linux). Studio also follows your system’s own text-size and display-scaling settings.
My dates are in the wrong order. How do I change them?
Choose a Date format on the Appearance tab. Automatic uses the region set on your computer; pick a fixed order such as 31/12/2026 or 12/31/2026 to override it.
Why does the app not switch to dark in the evening?
The mode is set to Light or Dark by hand. Choose System on the Appearance tab, or press the Toggle theme button in the top bar until the icon shows the automatic mode. Also check that your device itself is set to switch.
Where can I see which version of Studio I have?
Select About AceMoney Studio (the info button in the top bar). On a computer, Settings ▸ Software Update also shows the Installed version.
Does my theme follow me to another device?
No. The theme and the other appearance options are device settings, not part of your document. Set them once on each device.
Troubleshooting
The Hex accent field rejects my color. Enter six hexadecimal characters (0–9 and A–F), for example #1E8E6F, then press Apply. Color names and three-character short codes are not accepted.
The preview says “Low text contrast”. Your custom accent is too light or too dark for the current mode. Pick a different swatch, choose a preset, or switch between Light and Dark and check the line again.
Everything suddenly looks larger or smaller. A ⌘ + / ⌘ − (or Ctrl) key press changed the display size. Choose Standard under Display size.
Amounts use a comma where I expect a point. Choose a Number format such as 1,234.56 instead of Automatic.
My theme went back to the default after a reinstall or on a new computer. The theme is remembered per device. Choose it again on the Appearance tab.
Dark mode does not follow my computer. Make sure System is selected. On Linux, some desktop environments do not report a dark-mode preference, in which case choose Dark by hand.
