AceMoney Studio
AceMoney Studio user guide
AceMoney Studio is the personal finance app that keeps your whole ledger on your own device: accounts, transactions, budgets, scheduled bills, investments and reports, with exact cents throughout and no account needed. This chapter covers Studio on desktop computers, and AceMoney Studio Mobile for phones and tablets, which is coming with version 1.2.
Studio on desktop and on mobile
Studio Desktop runs on macOS, Windows and Linux (x64). You download it from the AceMoney website, your ledger is a document file you can keep anywhere, and you can have as many documents as you like. Optional extras on desktop: a document password with a recovery code, keyboard shortcuts, reminder notifications for scheduled bills, and an AceMoney Studio license bought on the website.
AceMoney Studio Mobile is coming to the App Store and Google Play, for iPhone, iPad and Android phones and tablets. Its first store release is version 1.2. It will be a free download with the same pages as the desktop app and one document that lives inside the app, and a one-time unlock bought inside the app. Until then, Studio runs on computers only.
The two are separate purchases: a desktop license does not unlock the phone app, and the phone unlock does not license a computer. With AceMoney Cloud, a separate subscription, your computers (and, from version 1.2, the phone app) keep the same document in step, end-to-end encrypted. Without it, each device keeps everything on its own.
What is free
The free version of Studio keeps three accounts you can edit, one goal and one portfolio, for as long as you like. The register, budgets, scheduled transactions, reports, import and backups all work. If a document has more accounts, for example after importing your AceMoney Classic data, every account comes in and stays visible; the ones past the first three are read-only. Nothing is ever deleted. Investments (the Portfolio page) need the license; your investment data stays in the document. An AceMoney Studio license lifts every limit. Coming from AceMoney Classic?
Studio is the successor to AceMoney Classic. Studio opens your AceMoney Classic data file (.amj) directly; the export file from AceMoney Classic is the fallback. See Export and migrate to Studio. AceMoney Classic is no longer sold but is still supported; see the AceMoney Classic chapter.
Common questions
Is Studio free?
Yes. The free version keeps three accounts you can edit, one goal and one portfolio for as long as you like. Other accounts stay visible and read-only, and Investments need the license. An AceMoney Studio license lifts those limits; see Free version and license.
Does Studio sync between my computer and my phone?
Yes, with AceMoney Cloud, a separate subscription: your accounts, transactions, budgets and the rest of the document stay in step between your computers, end-to-end encrypted, and with AceMoney Studio Mobile once it is released with version 1.2; see What syncs. Without it, each computer keeps its own documents; to carry one to another computer, see Backups and restore.
Do I need an account?
No. Studio and its license work without signing in. You sign in only to use AceMoney Cloud or to claim a Cloud license you bought; see Privacy and security.
Can Studio open my AceMoney Classic file?
Yes. Studio can open a .amj file directly; it asks for the file’s password, your Serial Number or the computer name only if the file needs it. See Export and migrate to Studio.
