Every setting in AceMoney Studio

This page is a map of Settings: every tab, section and control in one place, with a line each and a link to the page that explains it. Use it to find where a setting lives, or to check what a button does before you press it. Items marked “from version 1.2” arrive with AceMoney Studio 1.2.

Open Settings

Choose Settings at the bottom of the navigation rail. On a computer there are six tabs: Appearance, Currency & Quotes, Connections, Document, Account and Software Update. On a phone or tablet there are five; Software Update is not there, because the store updates the app. Settings opens on Appearance. If the Settings icon shows a number badge, Document Doctor found something to review after an import, and Settings opens on the Document tab instead.

Appearance tab

Language — Automatic, English, Italiano, Español or Français. Automatic follows your computer’s language. The change applies at once.
Appearance — System, Light or Dark. The Toggle theme button in the top bar changes the same setting.
Display size — Compact, Standard or Large. “Compact shows more on the screen; Large makes everything easier to read.” Ctrl and + or Ctrl and − (⌘ on a Mac) step through the sizes from anywhere. Each computer keeps its own choice.
Date format — Automatic (from this computer’s region), 31/12/2026, 12/31/2026 or 2026-12-31. From version 1.2 there are also 31-Dec-2026, 3.4.2026 and 03.04.2026. While Automatic is chosen, a line shows the form in use, for example Dates are shown like 31/12/2026. On a phone the first choice reads Automatic (from this device’s region).
Number format — Automatic (from this computer’s region), 1,234.56, 1.234,56, 1 234,56 or 1’234.56. While Automatic is chosen, a line shows the form in use, for example Numbers are shown like 1,234.56.
Theme — nine presets: Slate Teal (default), Indigo, Royal & Gold, Emerald, Graphite, Midnight, Plum, Copper and Classic Green. Money colors stay the same in every theme.
Custom accent — 16 swatches, or a code in Hex accent with Apply.
Accessibility — Colorblind-safe money colors: blue and orange instead of green and red, with a + or − sign on every amount.
Register (computers only, from version 1.2) — Double-click opens the transaction. Off by default: a double-click edits the cell you clicked. On: a double-click opens the whole transaction.
Preview — sample buttons, amounts and chart colors in the current theme, with a line on text contrast.
Reset theme to default — back to Slate Teal · System.

Currency & Quotes tab

Currency — Base currency for net worth and cross-account totals. You can pick any world currency. If you choose a different base currency on another computer, the newest choice is used on all of them.
Update exchange rates — downloads today’s rates from a free service. Only currency codes are sent. Next to it: Never downloaded or Last updated with the date.
Update exchange rates automatically — on by default, for this document.
Add investment value to account balances — on by default, for this document. On, an investment account’s balance is its cash plus its holdings at market value. Off, every balance is cash only.
Exchange rates — each currency’s rates against the base currency. Add rate, edit or delete a rate, and Add custom currency for a currency that is not in the world list (a coin or token, for example). Each rate shows Entered by hand or Downloaded, and the rate used today shows In use. A rate you type is used until you remove it. For a custom currency, Download this rate from Coinbase fetches today’s rate; it is off until you turn it on. From version 1.2, Use this rate puts the downloaded rate back in use after you typed one.
Market data — quotes download from a default source that needs no key. You can add your own free key for other sources; each field has a Get a free … key link and a note on that source’s free limit. Keys stay on this computer.
“Open in browser” opens each investment on — the finance site used by the Open in browser button of every investment.

Connections tab

Bank connections (from version 1.2) — appears once an account gets transactions from a bank feed. It shows when each account last updated and its state, for example Working, Out of date, Update failed or Needs sign-in. Each row says what to do, with Reconnect where it helps and Import a file from your bank.
Bank feeds — connect through SimpleFIN. Paste the SimpleFIN setup token (it works once) and press Connect. Get a SimpleFIN token ↗ opens SimpleFIN’s site. Once connected, the section reads Connected to SimpleFIN, with Sync now and Disconnect. The first sync opens Match bank-feed accounts, where you map each bank account to an existing account or Add new account. SimpleFIN bills its own fee. Works in the free version.
Bank feeds (AceMoney Cloud) — connect a US bank through AceMoney Cloud with Connect bank; you finish in your browser. It needs an AceMoney Cloud subscription and Cloud sync set up on this computer. On a phone this section says bank feeds are set up on a computer. See AceMoney Cloud.

Document tab

Everything on this tab belongs to the open document.

Security — This document is not encrypted. with Enable encryption…, or This document is encrypted. Attached files are stored separately and are not covered. with Change document password…. In the built-in default document the line reads Save this document to a file (File ▸ Save a Copy As…) to enable encryption. A phone cannot turn encryption on.
Backups — No backups yet or Last backup: with when and why. Back up now takes a snapshot; Restore… lists every snapshot and replaces the document after you confirm. A document that syncs with AceMoney Cloud cannot be restored over. Old snapshots are trimmed automatically.
Show duplicate check number warning — on by default. Warns when a check number is already used in the account.
Display future bills for — how far ahead the Register lists scheduled transactions after the real ones: None (default), 1 to 12 months, or 18 months to 5 years ahead.
First day of the fiscal year — a month and a day; 1 January until you choose. It sets what Current Fiscal Year and Previous Fiscal Year mean in Reports. It is not synced.
Check document… — opens Document Doctor: a check of the document with Repair buttons for the safe fixes.
Loan calculator, Savings calculator and Mortgage calculator — the same calculators as the Tools menu.

Account tab

Account — “Optional — your desktop license (Free version or unlocked) never needs an account. Sign in only to use AceMoney Cloud or to claim a Cloud license you purchased.” Sign in and Claim a Cloud license… are for AceMoney Cloud, a separate subscription; you never need them for the AceMoney Studio license. While you are signed in you see your e-mail address with Sign out, and Delete account…. If this device was signed out without you choosing Sign out, a Sign in again. row appears at the top.
On a Mac, while signed in: Email not confirmed with Send link and I’ve confirmed until you open the link in the e-mail, and Change sign-in password… if you sign in with a password.
Desktop license (computers only) — the Activate license card with License key, Purchase email address and Activate, and a note on what activation sends. Once activated: the Subscription card with Perpetual license, then the License card with This device, Rename this device, Deactivate this seat and View all seats on this license.
AceMoney Studio Mobile (phones and tablets only, from version 1.2) — the AceMoney Studio card: Free — up to 3 accounts you can edit. with Unlock, or Unlocked — unlimited accounts.
Reminders — Status (Enabled, Not yet enabled, Declined, Unavailable on this system, or on Windows Not installed) and Enable reminders. A reminder is a system notification the set number of days before a scheduled transaction is due. It fires only while Studio is open, and only for the portfolio you have open.
Privacy & diagnostics (phones and tablets only, from version 1.2) — Share crash & diagnostic reports, off by default, and a Privacy policy row.

Software Update tab (computers only)

Installed (the version you are running), Available (a version ready to install on restart, when there is one), Channel, Last checked, Check for updates now and, when an update is ready, Restart to update. Notices appear here when updates cannot be checked or installed.

Settings that live outside the Settings page

Portfolio switcher — in the top bar: Portfolio: and its name, with New portfolio…. See Portfolios.
Customize Home — show, hide and reorder the Home cards.
Hide reconciled — a switch in the Register, remembered per account.
Register columns — the Columns button in the Register toolbar: which columns show, Fit columns to window and Reset columns. Saved with the document.
Filters in the Register, and Period, Include transfers and Hide zero rows in Reports.
Show closed accounts and Keep editable… — on the Accounts page.
Tags and their colors — the Tags page.
Default category for a payee — the Payees page.
Reminder lead days and Post automatically on open — per scheduled transaction, in its form.
Quote provider, Quote symbol, Auto-download quotes and Open in browser — per investment, in its edit dialog.
Battery usage for automatic mileage tracking — the Tracking tab of Mileage on a phone.

iOS (iPhone and iPad)

From version 1.2. Five tabs; no Software Update tab and no Desktop license section. Sign in works, for AceMoney Cloud; Claim a Cloud license… is not shown. Encryption cannot be turned on, and reminders do not fire. The AceMoney Studio Mobile card is where the unlock lives.

Android

The same as iOS. Android’s own backup of app data can include the document if you have it turned on in Android’s settings.

macOS

All six tabs as described. File ▸ Save a Copy As… turns the default document into a file that can be encrypted.

Windows

All six tabs as described; the menu bar with File and Tools sits inside the window. Reminders shows Not installed if Studio was not installed with its setup program.

Linux

All six tabs as described. Reminders shows Unavailable on this system if your desktop has no notification service running.

Common questions

Is there a setting for the date or number format?

Yes, both on the Appearance tab. Date format and Number format follow your computer’s region while Automatic is chosen, or you can choose a fixed form. Studio reads what you type in the chosen format, and a line under an amount field shows how it understood it. Where a number could be read two ways in a field with three or more decimals (an exchange rate, a number of shares, a price), Studio asks you to type it another way. When you import a file, the import options have their own Date format and Decimal separator for that file.

Can I change the language?

Yes: Settings ▸ Appearance ▸ Language. Studio is available in English, Italian, Spanish and French. Automatic follows your computer’s language.

Where is the fiscal year setting?

On the Document tab, under First day of the fiscal year. It belongs to the open document and is not synced.

Where do I add a currency?

An account can use any world currency: pick it in Add account or Edit account. For a currency that is not in that list, use Settings ▸ Currency & Quotes ▸ Add custom currency. See Currencies.

Why did Settings open on the Document tab?

Document Doctor’s check after an import found something, and the badge on the Settings icon shows the count. Open Check document… to review it.

Where do I turn off crash reporting?

On a computer there is nothing to turn off: Studio sends no crash reports or usage statistics. On a phone or tablet (from version 1.2), Share crash & diagnostic reports on the Account tab is off unless you turn it on.

Troubleshooting

Enable encryption… is missing or grayed out. You are in the built-in default document. Use File ▸ Save a Copy As… to save it as a file, then turn on encryption in the copy. A phone cannot turn encryption on.

Update exchange rates says “Choose a base currency first.” Pick a Base currency above the button.

Update exchange rates says “Every account is in … , so there is nothing to convert yet.” Rates are fetched for the currencies your accounts use. Add an account in another currency first.

Update exchange rates says “Couldn’t reach the exchange-rate service. Try again later.” Check your internet connection and try again later.

Reminders shows “Declined”. Notifications for Studio were refused at the system prompt. Allow them in your operating system’s notification settings.

Reminders shows “Unavailable on this system”. Your system has no notification service Studio can reach (usually Linux without one running).

Bank feeds (AceMoney Cloud) says your account has no Cloud subscription. That section needs AceMoney Cloud. Without it, use the Bank feeds section with SimpleFIN.

I cannot find Software Update on my phone. Phones and tablets have no such tab; the App Store or Google Play updates the app.
