AceMoney Business for the self-employed

Last updated

AceMoney Business is for a sole proprietor or freelancer who keeps the books of a business in AceMoney Studio. You tag the business side of your money, send invoices to your customers from the same books, see what is paid and what is still due, and at the end of the year make a tax pack: a summary by Schedule C line, the vehicle deduction from your mileage log, the invoices issued and paid, the receipts, and the contractors you paid, as a PDF and CSV files your tax preparer can use.

Everything stays on your computer, as it does for the rest of AceMoney Studio. AceMoney Cloud is optional and only syncs your document between your devices. AceMoney does not send your invoices for you and does not file your taxes: it prepares the figures and the files, and you or your preparer do the rest.

How the parts fit together

  1. Set up your business. You give a portfolio a business profile with Set up my business, and you give each category a tax line, so the books know which expenses belong on which line of the tax form. See Set up your business.
  2. Send invoices and track them. You create an invoice for a customer from your Payees, send it as a PDF, and mark it paid when the money arrives, which posts a deposit to the account you choose. See Invoices.
  3. Make your tax pack. At year end you make the pack for the business and the year. See Tax pack.

Before you begin

  • A business is a portfolio. If household and business money share a document, give the business its own portfolio and switch to it; see Keep separate books with portfolios.
  • The tax-pack figures follow the United States Schedule C. The tax pack says of itself: “This pack helps you or your tax preparer fill in Schedule C. It is not tax advice; check every figure before you file.” It sorts your own entries by the lines you choose.
  • Business is on computers (macOS, Windows and Linux) and on phones and tablets (iPhone, iPad and Android).

Common questions

Does Business file my taxes or send my invoices by e-mail?

No. The tax pack is a set of files for you and your preparer. An invoice is a PDF that you send yourself, through the system share sheet or your mail program. AceMoney sends no e-mail itself and adds no payment links.

What happens to a category that has no tax line?

The pack leaves it out of the Schedule C figures and its Before you file list names it, so you can give it a line or confirm that it is personal. See Tax pack.

Where do my business details and invoices live?

In your own document, on your own computer, like the rest of AceMoney Studio. If you sync the document with AceMoney Cloud, they sync to your other devices with it.
