Is AceMoney Classic still supported?

This page explains what “no longer sold, still supported” means for AceMoney Classic (the earlier AceMoney program), which computers run it, where to get help, and how it relates to AceMoney Studio.

What “no longer sold, still supported” means

New licenses for AceMoney Classic are not sold any more. Everything you already have keeps working:

Your license keeps working. Every license ever issued stays valid. There is no expiry date and no new activation step. You can reinstall and register again on the same computer, or move to a new one, as often as you need; see Move AceMoney Classic to a new computer.
The installers stay available. The current versions of AceMoney stay on the downloads page so you can always reinstall; see Download and install AceMoney Classic.
Updates continue as published. When an update is released, Help > Check for updates… finds it, and the program’s own startup check (on by default) offers it. New features, new banks for online download, or a Linux version are not planned.
Support keeps answering. Questions about installing, registering, moving computers, your data file, imports, pairing with AceMoney Receipts and moving to AceMoney Studio are answered through the support portal and by e-mail (below).
AceMoney Lite keeps working. The old free edition still works, with its two-account limit, for people who already have it. It is no longer offered for download; new users can start with the Free version of AceMoney Studio.

Which computers run AceMoney Classic

AceMoney Classic is a 32-bit program that runs on 32-bit and 64-bit Windows, built for Windows 7 and later. Existing license holders can also download AceMoney Classic for macOS from the downloads page; it runs through an emulation layer. AceMoney Studio is the native choice for macOS.

Which version is current

Open Help > About… to see your version and the licensed name. The latest Windows release is 4.38. Help > Check for updates… compares your copy with the latest release; an update installs over the old version and opens every file made by an older version. Back up first with Tools > Backup….

Where to get help

Inside the program, the Help menu has Help Topics (F1), Online Tutorial…, What’s new… and Technical support, which opens the support site.

Include in a request: your version (Help > About…), your Windows version, the licensed name (never post your serial number in full), what you did, what you expected and what happened, and a screenshot of any message. For an online bank download problem, attach the log file: tick Enable logging in the download dialog first; the log is written to the Windows TEMP folder. Do not send screenshots that show full bank account numbers. More on the Support page.

Can I still buy a license?

No. If your 30-day trial has ended, there is no license to buy. Your data file is not deleted: AceMoney Studio opens it directly, including its Free version. If you already have AceMoney Lite, the file opens there too (two accounts at most; a file with more than two accounts opens but cannot be saved).

The path to AceMoney Studio

AceMoney Studio is the successor: a new program for macOS, Windows and Linux. AceMoney Studio Mobile, for iPhone, iPad and Android, is coming, starting with version 1.2. AceMoney Studio is a separate purchase, not an update, and it never needs your AceMoney Classic license to run.

Owners of an AceMoney Classic license can buy AceMoney Studio at a founder price. Go to the upgrade page at www.mechcad.net/upgrade/, enter the name on your license, your serial number and the e-mail address you bought it with, and follow the link we e-mail you. A license bought on or after April 1, 2026 gets a lower price still; the upgrade page shows yours. AceMoney Lite has no license, so it does not qualify.
AceMoney Studio opens your .amj data file directly; see Move your AceMoney Classic data to AceMoney Studio. Both programs can stay installed side by side, and the AceMoney Classic file is left untouched.
AceMoney Receipts pairs with AceMoney Classic today (see Pair AceMoney Classic with AceMoney Receipts). Pairing Receipts with AceMoney Studio is not available.

Common questions

Will AceMoney Classic stop working on a certain date?

No. There is no shutdown date and no license expiry. The program checks your license on your own computer, so it keeps opening your file whether or not you are online.

Do I have to move to AceMoney Studio?

No. You can keep using AceMoney Classic for as long as you like. Move when you want the new program, a native Mac or Linux version, or sync between your computers with AceMoney Cloud.

Is AceMoney Studio a free update for license holders?

No. It is a separate product with its own license, sold on the website. License holders can buy it at a founder price on the upgrade page at www.mechcad.net/upgrade/. See Plans and licensing.

Does the 30-day trial still work?

Yes. The full installer still runs as a trial for 30 days, but there is no license to buy at the end. A new user who wants a free program for the long term should choose the Free version of AceMoney Studio instead.

Is my AceMoney Classic data private?

Your data file stays on your computer. Nothing leaves it except online bank downloads you start, quote and exchange-rate downloads, the update check, and the Receipts pairing sync if you set it up. See Privacy and your data.

Will my bank’s online download keep working?

Online bank download uses your bank’s Direct Connect service. It keeps working for as long as your bank offers Direct Connect; banks are not being added to the list, and a bank that switches its service off cannot be brought back from our side. Bank-file import (QIF, OFX, QFX, OFC, CSV) is unaffected.

Can I get a refund on an AceMoney Classic license?

Licenses are no longer sold, so there are no new purchases to refund. Questions about a recent order go to support with the order e-mail address.

Troubleshooting

“Days Installed: N of 30” appears at every start although you own a license. The copy is not registered on this computer. Help > Register AceMoney… and paste the name and serial from the license e-mail. See Register AceMoney Classic with your license.
Help > Check for updates… finds nothing. You already have the latest release.
Help > Technical support opens a page that looks different from before. The support site moved to the portal; it is the right place.
Help > Help Topics opens the browser and nothing loads. The help is online and needs an internet connection.
The Order button leads nowhere useful. Licenses are no longer sold; the button dates from when they were. Nothing is wrong with your copy.
