AceMoney Classic

Register AceMoney Classic with your license

Last updated

This page helps you turn a trial copy of AceMoney Classic into a registered one with the license you own, and tells you what to do when the key is missing or refused. Licenses are no longer sold, but every license ever issued keeps working.

Before you begin

Find your license e-mail. It was sent the minute your order was approved and contains two things: a Name and a Serial Number: a long block of six lines of dash-separated groups. Gmail and other services often file this e-mail as spam, so check the spam folder first.

Enter your license

  1. In AceMoney, open Help > Register AceMoney…. (If the evaluation screen is showing, click Enter; it opens the same dialog.)
  2. In the Register dialog, copy the Name from the e-mail and paste it into Name, exactly as written, including capital letters and spaces.
  3. Copy the whole Serial Number block from the e-mail and paste it into Serial Number, or click Paste with the block on the clipboard. The dialog checks the pair as you paste and enables OK only when the name and the serial match.
  4. Click OK. The program thanks you, and the evaluation screen does not appear again.

Check that your copy is registered

Help > About… shows the licensed name. A trial copy shows “Evaluation user”; the free edition shows “AceMoney Lite”.

The 30-day trial

The full program starts a 30-day trial on its first run. Every start shows the evaluation screen with Days Installed: N of 30 and three buttons: Enter (type your license), Order and Quit; the screen makes you wait a few seconds before it lets you continue. After 30 days the program no longer opens until a license is entered. Your data is not deleted.

Because licenses are no longer sold, an expired trial has two ways forward: register with a license you already own, or move your data to AceMoney Studio. AceMoney Studio opens the file directly, including its Free version, and if you already have AceMoney Lite the file opens there too (two accounts at most; a bigger file opens but cannot be saved); see Move your AceMoney Classic data to AceMoney Studio.

AceMoney Lite needs no registration

AceMoney Lite is an old free edition for people who already have it; it is no longer offered for download. It never asks for a license; its Help menu has no Register AceMoney… or Order AceMoney… items, so do not look for them. Its limit is two accounts. Lite cannot pair with AceMoney Receipts: AceCloud > Cloud Settings… says “This feature is available with licensed version of AceMoney”.

Rules the license follows

  • The name and the serial belong together. You cannot register with a different name, and a serial from another order does not match your name.
  • Registration is checked on your PC. The program does not contact a server to register, so it works offline.
  • One license is for one user on one computer. Moving to a new computer is fine as long as you uninstall on the old one; see Move AceMoney Classic to a new computer. Reinstalling on the same computer only needs the key again.
  • The license has no expiry date and is not affected by AceMoney Classic no longer being sold.

Recover a lost license key

  1. Search your mailbox, including spam and archived mail, for the license e-mail; it contains the words “AceMoney” and “Serial Number”.
  2. If it is gone, open a request on the support portal at https://support.mechcad.net/ (opens in a new tab) or write to support@mechcad.net. Include the licensed name if you know it and the e-mail address you ordered with; an order number or an approximate order date helps. License records are kept, so a license can be looked up and sent again.

Open a Licensing and billing questions request on the support portal. Give the licensed name and the e-mail address you ordered with, and an order number or approximate date if you have one.

If the e-mail address you ordered with no longer exists, say so in the request and give the old address as well as the new one.

Common questions

Can I still buy a license?

No. AceMoney Classic is no longer sold. Existing licenses keep working; new users can start with the Free version of AceMoney Studio.

Do I have to enter the key again after an update?

No. Installing a new version over the old one keeps the registration.

Do I have to enter the key again after reinstalling Windows?

Yes. Reinstall AceMoney and enter the same name and serial with Help > Register AceMoney…. The same license is used; nothing needs to be released or reset first.

What does the license unlock compared with AceMoney Lite?

Unlimited accounts and pairing with AceMoney Receipts. Every other feature is the same in both editions.

Can somebody else use my license?

The license is issued to the named user for one computer. Do not pass it on; a serial published online is what makes “registered” copies on other sites unsafe.

I own a license. Does that give me AceMoney Studio?

Not by itself. AceMoney Studio is a separate product, but owners of an AceMoney Classic license can buy it at a founder price. Go to the upgrade page at www.mechcad.net/upgrade/, enter your licensed name, your serial number and the e-mail address you ordered with, and follow the link we e-mail you. If you bought AceMoney Classic on or after April 1, 2026, the price is lower still. See Is AceMoney Classic still supported? and Plans and licensing.

Does the founder price apply to AceMoney Lite?

No. Lite has no license and no serial number, so there is nothing to enter on the upgrade page.

Where is the license stored, and does the data file depend on it?

The registration is stored on the PC, not in your data file. Your .amj file opens with or without a license (in Lite, with the two-account limit), so an expired trial never locks your data away.

Troubleshooting

  • “Invalid serial number”, or OK stays greyed out. The name or the serial was typed, is incomplete, or belongs to a different order. Paste both from the license e-mail; use the Paste button for the serial; check that all six lines came across.
  • No license e-mail arrived. Check the spam folder and any other mailbox you might have used. Then contact support with the order e-mail address (see “Recover a lost license key”).
  • The evaluation screen appears at every start although you registered. The registration did not stick on this computer or Windows user. Open Help > Register AceMoney… and enter the name and serial again. If it keeps coming back, contact support with your version (Help > About…).
  • There is no Register item in the Help menu. You are running AceMoney Lite. If you own a license, download AceMoneySetup.exe from the downloads page, install it over Lite, then register. The same data file opens in the full program.
  • The Order button opens a page that no longer sells the program. Expected; licenses are no longer sold, and the button dates from when they were.
  • Registration worked, but pairing with Receipts still says “available with licensed version”. Restart AceMoney after registering; if it persists, check Help > About… shows your licensed name.
