New

  • Split transfers: a transfer can now be split between categories like any other transaction. Open it, tick Split and give each line a category (Food 60, Household 40). It stays one transfer, and the balances do not change. With “Include transfers” on, reports count the lines as spending in the account the money left and as income in the account it reached. Between accounts in two currencies the lines are scaled to the amount received.
  • Split transfers in a file from AceMoney Classic come in as one transfer with its category lines (in the currency they were made in). Both accounts show it as Split with Classic’s amounts, and the balances are Classic’s. A file whose lines do not add up still opens: Studio keeps the lines as they are, warns, and the Document Doctor flags them.
  • Reports convert amounts in other currencies at the exchange rate of each transaction’s own day, not today’s. Net worth, Accounts, Portfolio, Safe to spend and the Forecast still use today’s rate, and a file imported from AceMoney Classic, which holds one rate for each pair of currencies, reports as before. A line under the report’s title says which rule it used.
  • Enter scheduled transactions ahead: Settings ▸ Document has a new switch, “Enter automatic scheduled transactions ahead of their due date” (off by default). When it is on, an automatic schedule is entered when the document opens, up to its Reminder lead days before it is due, and Safe to spend counts a deposit entered ahead as your next income.
  • The Register’s QIF export now writes the category lines of a split transaction, in the layout AceMoney Classic writes. The lines of a split transfer carry the sign of their own side of the transfer, so they add up to that side’s amount.
  • A new switch in Settings ▸ Appearance colours the whole Register row of a tagged transaction, not only its text (off by default).
  • AceMoney Business is a module for a sole proprietor or freelancer who keeps the books of a business in AceMoney Studio. Set up a business in Settings ▸ Document ▸ AceMoney Business ▸ Set up my business; the business is a portfolio of its own. Each category can carry a tax line (a Schedule C line, or “Personal”), and a banner on Reports tells you when a new tax year’s lines arrive.
  • Invoices: create, duplicate, send, mark paid or void an invoice from the Invoices page of a business portfolio. The customer comes from your Payees, numbers come from your invoice prefix, and Send hands the PDF to your own mail or share sheet; AceMoney Studio sends no e-mail and adds no payment link. Because a share sheet cannot tell whether the message went, Studio then asks “Did you send it?” and marks the invoice Sent only if you answer Yes (on a phone, Save PDF asks the same). Print opens on the invoice’s own paper: Letter for US and Canadian dollars, A4 otherwise. Marking an invoice paid posts a deposit to an account you can write to. A “Due to me” card for Home is off until you turn it on.
  • An invoice follows its payments everywhere: if you delete the payment you recorded for a paid invoice, it goes back to Sent on the Invoices page, in Due to me, in the Tax pack and in Export Everything.
  • On Windows, Save PDF adds .pdf to the file name and lists the type as PDF, and “Did you send it?” waits until the share window has closed.
  • Tax pack: Reports ▸ Tax pack gathers a business and a year into a Schedule C by line (the summary card adds up to the net profit), the vehicle section, the 1099-NEC list at that year’s threshold, your invoices, a receipts appendix and a “Before you file” checklist, as a PDF (Letter for US and Canadian dollars, A4 otherwise) and CSV files that each end with a line saying it is not tax advice. It helps you or your tax preparer fill in Schedule C; it is not tax advice.
  • AceMoney Business is sold on our website as a yearly subscription. The Free version of Studio includes one invoice a month, and AceMoney Cloud includes Business.
  • On iPhone, iPad and Android, Business is also sold in the App Store and Google Play, and a licence bought there or on the website works on every device of the account.
  • Computers that use the same document now know each other’s AceMoney version. If another computer that uses the document has a newer version, Studio tells you to update this computer, or you risk losing changes; if this computer is the newer one, it tells you once which computer to update before you use new features there. Either message has “… isn’t used any more” for a computer you no longer use.
  • AceMoney Studio is now also on iPhone, iPad and Android.

Improved

  • Print on the Accounts page now reads like a statement: each group’s name is a heading, the rows are in smaller type with thin rules between them, each “… Total” row is bold with a rule above it, and the Grand Total is larger. The Accounts page and its other exports are unchanged, and so is every other report’s printout.
  • Bank connections: Settings ▸ Connections shows the time of the last update as the server recorded it, so two computers show the same time (after each bank connection’s next sync on the server).
  • After you recover your account, Studio sets up shared capture for your documents again before it lets you remove a device. When you remove a device, Studio first lists the documents in which receipts sent with that device’s capture keys could be lost, so you can cancel and open those documents first.
  • On a phone, an account whose newest transaction is more than 90 days old now shows its latest stretch of transactions in the Register, not “No transactions yet” beside a correct balance.
  • On Android, the file picker lets you choose every kind of import file (Classic .amj, Microsoft Money .mny, QIF, OFX, QFX and OFC), and a file Android hands over under a .bin name is recognised by what is inside it. A file Studio cannot recognise is refused before it is read.
  • On a phone, turning on “Track mileage in this app” before location is allowed now explains what is recorded and asks for location permission first. If you decline, the switch stays off and a line says “Location permission is needed to record a drive.” with an Open Settings button, instead of an error line.
  • On a phone at the largest text size, Home’s Projected cash flow figures stay on one line, Customize Home shows whole labels, and the top bar shrinks a long page title or document name instead of cutting it off.

Fixed

  • Safe to spend: on a document imported from AceMoney Classic, the Home card no longer says that no spending accounts are chosen. Studio now treats your Classic cash accounts as spending accounts, and if you have not chosen any it asks you to. Your own choice is never changed. The sample data now also shows a figure.
  • Quitting AceMoney Studio, or closing its window, now releases the document, so you can open it on another computer without first opening and closing it on the first one. If a computer crashes, loses power, or (on Linux) you log out or end Studio with the kill command, the document can still be left marked open; the guide says how to recover.
  • Classic files that contain dates after 2038 open: AceMoney Classic 4.39 marks such a file in a way earlier Studio versions refused.
  • Importing a Classic file with a split transaction whose lines add up to its total no longer shows a false “lines do not add up” warning, and a refund line in a split of mixed signs keeps its sign instead of becoming a second expense.
  • The budget gauge on Home no longer draws its amount under the needle.

Before you update

  • The first time AceMoney Studio 1.3 opens a file from an earlier version, it upgrades the file (one time, a moment), and AceMoney Studio keeps a backup from before the upgrade, listed in Settings ▸ Document ▸ Backups as “Before upgrade (schema v47)” (47 is the number of a file made by 1.2; the backup carries the file’s own). Do not open an upgraded file in an earlier version: it opens, but it can lose what 1.3 added, such as the lines of a split transfer. Update every computer that uses the document.
  • If your document is synced with AceMoney Cloud, update every computer you use before you start using Business there.
  • If you open the same document on more than one computer, update them all to 1.3 before splitting a transfer.
  • From 1.3, when the computers that share a document are not all on the same version, the older one shows a warning to update.
  • AceMoney Studio 1.2 does not know the new version warning: a computer still on 1.2 will not tell you that another computer is newer. Update every computer that uses a document. On a 1.2 computer, the Sync line may say “N changes can’t be applied by this version yet” (one per computer that records its version); updating it makes that go away.
